Thank you!!!

We would like to thank everyone for joining us for Art In The...Garden!
We lucked out with such a beautiful day and amazing company.

If you didn't make it out then unfortunately you didn't get to meet the artists and sample some of the delicious snacks, but not to worry! Below are two recipes that we're sure you will enjoy and make sure to pop by next time to see us.

We would also like to announce that our next even is Sunday, September 30th. We will be involved in Culture Days! Please take a look at the event listing HERE.

Apple Cake, recipe from Tawny Bee

1 tbsp white sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
3 cups all purpose flour
3tsp salt

1 cup canola oil
1/4 cup orange juice
2 1/2 tsp vanilla
4 eggs

Preheat oven to 350F or 175C.
Grease and flour a 10inch bundt or tube pan. In a medium bowl, combine the apples, the 1tsp of sugar, and cinnamon; set aside. Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt and set aside as well.
In a large bowl, combine 2 cups white sugar, oil, orange juice, vanilla, and eggs. Beat at high speed until smooth. Stir in flour mixture until just incorporated and then add apple mixture. Fold in chopped walnuts.
Pour the batter into prepared pan.
Bake in preheated oven for 55 to 60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes and then turn onto wire rack.

Rhubarb Punch, recipe from Nancy Blokland

2 cups water
juice of 2 lemons, or 2 tbsp of real lemon

Artist Feature: Kay's Kreations

Kay was first introduced to her medium of choice, paverpol, through family and immediately was in awe. Immediately it’s beauty and the potential had her mesmerized and in love. She found herself waking up everyday thinking of paverpol and knew shehad to take it to the next level.

After weeks of research to find out where, how and when she could get her hands on this amazing product, finding it was harder to track down that she expected and no where close to home.  Eventually Kay decided it would be easier to go to where the paverpol was. She then set out and boarded a plane to greet her new adventure.

Spending countless hours creating and getting to know the product she is now back to share her new journey in life with many. Weddings, birthdays, showers, or just for you, Kay can teach you to create one of a kind keepsake.

Kay will be at Art In The...Garden but please visit her blog to see what else she is up to!

Artist Feature: Cloverleaf Fibre

A passionate artist from a young age, Linda has worked in oils, watercolor, acrylics, pastel, conte crayon, pencil, and pen and ink; she has also dabbled in sculpting clay and carving wood.

The acquisition of purebred Shetland Sheep, and the resulting treasure trove of naturally colored fibre led to experiments with felting. The depth and textures of the resulting hand-made felts were an inspiration: each felt is a highly individual 'canvas'. When enhanced with needle-felted images, the spirit as well as substance of each subject is captured with a vibrancy difficult to achieve on canvas alone. Each work of fibre art is a delight not only to the eye, but to the fingertips.

The designs are transferred straight from Linda's vivid imagination to the felt, without the use of patterns or sketches. This allows the work to flow with the natural textures and colors of the hand-made felt canvas, and lends a truly unique vision to the work.

Linda will be with us at Art In The...Garden and visit her website!

Artist Feature: Birdie and Dot

Birdie and Dot are two sisters, Alison and Leslie, who run an Etsy shop from 2 different cities (Edmonton and Winnipeg).
They work together to make and sell quality handmade items, handcrafted gifts, toys and accessories for babies, mothers, and moms-to-be.

Realising that there is a great interest in quality handmade items - especially for babies - they felt that they had something unique to offer.
Alison and Leslie started their Etsy shop on February 10, 2012 (their Birthday!). Before that, they had been talking about making and selling items for sometime (over the phone) and finally decided to jump in!

Finding creative inspiration everywhere, they are inspired by fun fabrics and are always wanting to make items that people will find unique, cute and/or functional.

Come see Birdie and Dot at Art In The...Garden and visit their Etsy shop!

Artist Feature: Tawny Bee

With her focus on being environmentally conscious, Tawny Brill, the woman behind Tawny Bee, pours herself entirely into her craft of sewing.

Naming it as her stress reliever, hobby, and business, this gal shows no signs of stopping! Not only does she sew items to sell, she also sews clothes for her family!

Using upcycled materials, Tawny specializes in Mama Cloth (reusable pads and pantyliners), macrame friendship bracelets and what she calls "Hanging Housewares" which are basically things that you can hang up in your house (like teddy beds, laundry storage, oven mitts, etc).

Finding inspiration in the drive and talent of those around her, she is very excited to be particitpating in Art In The...Garden and looks forward to meeting everyone who stops by!

Please visit Tawny's website, Twitter, Zibbet shop, Etsy shop, and blog!

Artist Feature: Nancy Blokland

For 29 years Nancy has been working on pottery as what she calls her "creative addiction", a cute phrase one is tempted to call their own! It's clear that in that time she has honed her craft and developed a style all her own.

Although she has tried to retire multiple times, the pots keep calling her back. She says it's in her blood, and it's evident that she has a natural talent when her hands meet the clay.

When looking at Nancy's pieces it's obvious that she pulls a lot of inspiration from her beloved garden (gardening being her other passion), many of the bowls and plates have a very organic look to them in both colour and form.

Come meet Nancy at Art In The...Garden where she will be selling her wares.
Don't forget to visit Nancy's Blog and her Etsy store to out more about her!

Art in the...

What the... is Art in the...?!

Art in the... is a series of events that focus on bringing local artists together with their community.

To be located in different locations around Winnipeg, the events will feature the work of many different artists who mediums range from pottery to fabric, yarn to paper, and everything in between. We invite the community and all those interested to come and see what the artists have been up to, chat with them, and have the opportunity to purchase the pieces.

By encouraging familiarity with the local talent we hope to create more recognition for the artists so they can flourish and continue to do what they love!

Please stay tuned for event information!
